L.G.A. McIntyre was born in 1921 in central Scotland, and grew up in Glasgow and Vienna, Austria. After attending the University of Glasgow, McIntyre joined the Royal Navy during World War II. In 1946 he joined the British Army and served for a number of years in Yugoslavia and Germany before settling in England in 1949
He married a fellow servicewoman in 1950. McIntyre began his career as a freelance writer in 1953, when he published his first book, The Bigamist's Wife, a psychological mystery novel that became a bestseller. In addition to writing fiction, he has written dozens of non-fiction books on psychology and history.
In 1980 he co-founded the Green Books Foundation with his wife, Betty Jukes McIntyre, which publishes educational titles for children. McIntyre died on February 12, 1998.
